Tangerine: Color Of The Year

By Erica Cho

If there were an awards show for Color of the Year, Miss Tangerine would strut up to the stage, blow kisses to the crowd, and accept the title with confidence. And she would look vibrant doing it!

This is no dream for the energetic reddish orange hue, as tangerine was indeed named by Pantone Fashion Color Report as the Color of 2012. Tangerine has taken the fashion and beauty world by storm, with flashes of the lively color seen in the spring collections of Tommy Hilfiger, Nanette Lepore, Cynthia Steffe by Shaun Kearney, Elie Tahari and Adrienne Vittadini.

It doesn’t look as if tangerine will be fading away any time soon. As a close cousin of the autumnal color orange, tangerine’s immense popularity will likely stay strong in fall fashion.

A glimpse into the current windows of Sephora shows Pantone’s homage to tangerine with beautiful photos of models adorned with the color on their lips, cheeks, and nails. Tangerine may not be an everyday eyeshadow choice, but it is a great color for enhancing blue and green eyes while bringing out an amber glow to brown eyes.
