Yes it’s great to find a guy who all your girlfriends find amazing. But perhaps more importantly, what do the men say?
When Ron and I were getting serious about our relationship I took him to Tulsa to meet my family and closest friends. Hal and Gayle hosted a brunch for our usual gang, the group that had met for a weekly bible study for years. Ron thought it was a simple get together but I knew better.
Every one of my guy friends were checking him out with a critical eye. Who is this guy Lynette finds so enamoring? Is he really full of character? What about his past and career track-record? Is he likable and does he fit in easily?
Fortunately Ron passed with flying colors and we all came together in New York months later for the wedding. IF it had been different however, my phone would have been ringing off the hook with cautionary counsel and be-careful wisdom. I would have definitely had to reconsider.
More importantly than my guy friends however, were Ron’s. I spent hours getting to know them, first casually, then in depth. As we got more serious they offered their candid opinions on Ron and his heretofore life. They were honest and enthusiastic, bringing further confirmation and comfort. In fact, Ron’s friends were my first draw to being open to him. Like kinds hang together and admiring them led to admiring him.
Men know men just like women know women. We discern in ways the opposite sex can’t and that’s why you need honest friends on both sides of the analysis table, but absolutely you need the men.
Marry a man among men. One who others applaud, recognize, and want to emulate. The princess you are deserves the prince he is.
