Paris Fashion Week – the final portion of a month-long international event has come to an end. Lasting from September 23rd to October 1st the designers shown gave us a lot of insight as to what will be trending next year for spring.
The 1970’s proved to be the most influential as many of the shows featured silhouettes, colors, and accessories inspired by its glam or bohemian styles. Also a go to, the beauty of nature – specifically the sea.
Here’s our take on the trends and our favorites!
Who: Valentino
What: Nautical themes were huge last Spring/Summer, and if the designers at Valentino have it their way- it will be again next year. A beautiful collection, clothes featured detailed embroidery on light and airy materials with the inspiration of all things under the sea. A red floor length gown with a perfectly executed coral print was one of our favorites.
Who: Elie Saab
What: Elie Saab is known for glamorous gowns. Stars and Hollywood’s elite love his looks for the red carpet. While fashion lovers always catch their breaths over his ability to mold beautiful gowns. Inspired by the ocean, the collection featured several shades of blues, shoreline neutrals, and bright hues.
Who: Louis Vuitton
What: Starting in Milan, the 1970’s trend for Spring 2015 continued at Paris Fashion Week. High necks, patchwork prints, peasant blouses, and shimmering bottoms were just some of the way the pieces translated the trend in the Louis Vuitton collection. High fashion critics loved the line and the new designer in charge.
Who: Chanel
What: Supporting women’s rights, Lagerfeld referenced a late 60s protest that took place in Paris as inspiration for a collection of dramatic working wear for women. Pieces like a floor length tweed and Technicolor trench led with the 70s inspiration, but held true to the genuine design the Chanel brand is known for.
Who: Celine
What: Reported by Style.com Phoebe Philo, head designer of Celine, was inspired by the song “This Woman’s Work” by Kate Bush. Made famous by R&B singer Maxwell, the song inspired the designer to be vulnerable with her Spring 2015 collection. Featuring floral prints for the first time, it definitely allowed the designer to explore beyond the classic neutrals we expect from the Celine brand.
Who: Christian Dior
What: Wishing to create his own ripple in time during fashion week, Style.com reports that Raf Simons had the outside of the tents showcasing Dior’s Spring 2015 line covered in mirrors. The mirrors made the tent and its participants literally disappear into the designer’s reality. Straying a little from the ultra feminine silhouettes of the past, this line seemed to be more in tune to Simon’s own simple design nature.
Who: Alessandra Rich
What: The 80s? One of the only designers to reference the era- we enjoyed a different generation being a collections inspiration for Spring 2015. Besides, who can resist the literal references in the shapes of the clothing and gold hardware.
Who: Lanvin
What: Spring 2015 in Paris was filled with darker hues. Black, navy, dark maroon, deep gold – there was a hint of pastels here and there – however majority of the designers showed clothes with less color and more sophistication. Lanvin did the same, executing dramatic cuts and a dark color palette with ease for the Spring 2015 line. And take a look at the shoes!
