The former Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams released her solo album “Journey to Freedom” on Tuesday. Lead by the popularity of the single, the album is already No. 1 on the iTunes Christian & Gospel charts. It has been 6 years since her 2008 solo record “Unexpected.
The album blends contemporary gospel with R&B, hip hop and pop sounds and attracts an audience that includes those who are not traditional Gospel listeners. The album features critically acclaimed artists such as Tye Tribbett, LaCrae, and Fantasia.
Williams, who grew up in the church, is a believer with a strong faith in God. “He is real, and if God is real and He continues to bless me and allows me to do what I love, than I need to believe in me…I believe in God, but you have to believe in yourself with God” she reported to The Christian Post.
Over the past six years, Williams put her music career on hold to perform live on Broadway. Appearing in “The Color Purple,” “Aida,” “Chicago,” and “Fela,” she also garnered several TV credits. Williams will star in the Oxygen television series Fix My Choir premiering November 5th on the Oxygen network.
